About the Position: Position is located at White Sands Test Center, Surv,Vul Assess Dir, Nuclear Effects Div, Radiation Facility Br with duty location of White Sands Missile Range, NM.(Merit).
Duties
Support and assists in the review of experiments proposed for execution at the assigned facilities.
Operate, maintain, and modify the PGS, LINAC, EMP, SF, GRF, Eldorado, and Lightning facility as required to complete assigned test programs
Serves as an expert in operating system software for a variety of micro-, mini-, and mainframe computers and as technical authority on associated state-of-the-art hardware and software of associated facilities.
Organize the efforts to establish/implement new hardware, software, and makes required additions and changes to existing computer control systems.
Provide direct support for the performance of facility maintenance using highly sophisticated test equipment
Operate, maintain, and modify systems and facilities for one or more of the SVAD Facilities for assigned test programs.
Responsible for the overall operation of the facility in a manner which ensures the safety of personnel and protection of the equipment.
Serve as a certified senior operator of the assigned radiation test facility
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance through the duration of your employment.
- This position requires the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station up to 20% of the time.
- Position requires stooping, bending, lifting of heavy objects, occasional climbing of antenna towers with a safety climb device, exposure to facility and generator noise, adverse weather conditions.
- The work and environment require regularly constant alertness, special safety precautions to prevent, control, eliminate, or reduce the effects of moderate risks, discomforts, exposure to dangerous substances or adverse environmental conditions.
- Position may require use of protective Clothing or equipment as authorized by the WSMR Safety office.
- Selectee may be required to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, rotating shifts, holidays, and/or overtime to keep facilities operational twenty-four hours per day when required.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) experience with both nuclear survivability and enhanced low dose radiation sensitivity testing (ELDRS); (2) experience with facility operations and/or maintenance relating Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs); and (3) experience with handling radiative materials. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower level/grade position in the federal service (NJ-03/GS-11).
