You will serve as a UTILITY SYSTEM REPAIRER-OPERATOR in the Public Works Department of NAVFAC NORTHWEST. WG-08 $32.28-$37.66 WG-10 $34.74-$40.63

Duties

You will collect water samples, perform chemical tests and chemical treatment to prevent scale and corrosion. You will operate all boiler plant and auxiliary equipment to produce and control the amount of steam necessary to meet demands including proper operation of pollution control equipment. You will use computers and standard software for industrial controls. You will operate, maintain, troubleshoot, repair and test a variety of complex equipment and systems involving central plant steam distribution boilers and building boilers, including all associated auxiliary systems. You will perform flow tests on the salt water distribution system.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and be respirator qualified.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: 1) Assisting in operating all boiler plant and/or auxiliary equipment to produce and control the amount of steam necessary to meet demands; 2) Performing maintenance and repair on piping, valves and pumps associated with utility systems; 3) Using industrial power equipment such as power saws, hand and machine pipe threading equipment, and metal working equipment to include welders, plasma cutters and oxy-acetylene torches, grinders, and test equipment such as pyrometers, ohmmeters, and flow meters. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
