Duties

This position is located in Louisville, Kentucky. If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for the United States Attorney's Office of Western District of Kentucky. You will be responsible for providing technical and advisory assistance to support the information management needs of the District. At the full performance level, typical work assignments will include: Performing work designed to support the Information Technology Help Desk; Gathering and analyzing basic facts to resolve problems identified by users, elevating issues to IT staff as necessary. Assisting in providing customer support and service relative to personal computers and equipment such as cell phones, laptops and tablets; Assisting in assembly and disassembly of computer equipment for meetings and conferences; Assisting in the installation, configuration, and upgrading of commonly used hardware and software systems, including minor desktop, telecom, and network troubleshooting and reassigning, as appropriate. Resolving recurring software/hardware problems for which precedents exists. Maintaining and controlling IT systems security documentation and assisting with equipment inventories. Assisting with deliveries and escorting personnel as required. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this internship ALL of the following requirements must be met: Student Status: Definition of a student - applicant must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an accredited high school, technical or vocational school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate/professional school, or certificate program equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study (go to http://www.ed.gov/accreditation to verify accreditation status) pursuant to 5 CFR 362. You must be considered in good academic standings by the school. Individuals must be taking at least a half-time academic, vocational, or technical course load leading to a degree, diploma, or certificate. "Half-time" is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled. Grade Point Average: You must have at least a 2.5 GPA. Citizenship: Student Interns must be United States citizens or owe permanent allegiance to the United States. (Currently, natives of American Samoa, Swains Island and certain inhabitants of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands are the only groups that owe permanent allegiance to the United States.)Background Investigation: You must successfully complete a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment. GS-05: To be eligible at the GS-05 level, applicants must have 3 years of progressively responsible general experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to the GS-4 level in Federal service as defined below. Qualifying experience MUST demonstrate possession of each of the following competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, and Problem Solving also defined below; OR a bachelor's degree in any field. General Experience (for GS-5): Three years of progressively responsible general experience, one year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to: Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; Plan and organize work; and Communicate effectively orally and in writing. This experience does not have to be IT-related and could have been gained in the federal, public, or private sector. Such experience is defined as experience that demonstrates the ability to: analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions; plan and organize work; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, certification), as appropriate. Such experience may have been gained in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other work. Experience of general clerical nature typing, filing, routine procedural processing, maintaining records, or other non-specialized tasks is not creditable. Applicants must also demonstrate they have qualifying experience in each of the four competencies listed and defined below; the experience does not have to be IT-related. Experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, certification), as appropriate. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. OR Education: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree in any field. All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing any part of your qualifications on education.
