Duties

As a Museum Curator you will: Perform curatorial activities related to the CDC Museum including the active growth, research, use and display of exhibitions and materials pertaining to CDC/ATSDR history and ongoing programs, research, and activities. Complete record keeping and data collection including the formulation, maintenance, documentation, oversight of photographic exhibits, Maintain location, donor, exhibition history, publications, inventory, and Museum collection materials. Organize, develop, and oversee logistics of all Museum exhibitions. Lead subject matter steering committees, composed of representatives of appropriate CDC branches, divisions, centers, or offices. Coordinate and integrate museum research and professional development programs.

Qualifications

All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Qualifications: Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. OR Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown above. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify at the GS-14 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 grade level, which must include the following experience: managing exhibition, education, and collection programs and policies; overseeing relevant research and generating related interpretive materials; developing a communication strategy; participating in the planning and implementation of museum exhibitions; and building partnerships for community outreach. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.

College or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
