The ideal candidate will have experience and education in hydrology and hydrological forecasting. The candidate will have understanding in translating scientific data into meaningful reports, summaries and briefings. Which will be used to increase situational awareness within the emergency management community; and willingness and ability to proactively develop effective professional relationships amongst multiple federal agencies.

What will I do in this position if hired? In this Hydrologist position, you will perform as a hydrologist/Liaison Officer (LNO) supporting the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and, FEMA inter-agency Mission for Water and Flood predictions at the National Water Center concerning the management and control of Water associated issues and crisis. Qualifications

All qualifications and eligibility requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. To qualify for this Hydrologist position at the IC-13 level, you must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the IC-12 level in the Federal government, which has equipped you with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Experience may be obtained in the federal government, a state or local government, or private sector, and must demonstrate the following: Analyzing forecasts and communicating technical hydrological information to partners; and Utilizing GIS, and/or other data and modelling software to support decision making for hydrological events; and Reviewing plans, policies and/or procedures for implementation within emergency management programs. Individual Occupational Requirement: In addition to the minimum qualifications described above, you must meet the following requirement(s) to be considered qualified for the position: A. Degree: physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels. OR B. Combination of education and experience: course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
