Duties

This position is located at Grand Teton National Park within the Division of Facility Management. The Electrician will be part of the Buildings and Quarters crew working on all types of electrical work, including residential, commercial, and industrial. This position will require knowledge of low voltage and high voltage controls and troubleshooting on a variety of equipment, including HVAC components, sewer lift stations, water pump controls, and will work closely with the utilities branch. The selected employee will be the sole park electrician and subject matter expert. The selected employee will be responsible for the park's standby generators. The selected employee will work with other maintenance mechanics on various troubleshooting and will assist with shoveling snow from the roofs of houses and buildings during winter. The position will require a journeymen level or higher electrical license. Physical Demands - Incumbent makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, knuckle boom lifts, mechanical scissor lifts and roof top areas. Fall protection PPE is required and mandated in most high platform areas. Light to heavy physical exertion is required, with occasional lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Incumbent does considerable standing, bending, kneeling, reaching and frequently works in awkward and tiring positions. Work Environment: Work will be accomplished both inside and outside in temperatures that may be hot in the summer and extremely cold in the winter. Exposure to rain and snow is very likely. Incumbent is required to work in outside temperatures that range from -45 degrees F. (below zero) to +90 degrees F. Climbs and works in high places and in confined areas. Work frequently requires pushing, pulling, carrying many awkward loads. Travel by various means of transportation is required. This includes using over-snow travel by snow machines during the winter months. Incumbent must possess a government electrician operator's license for the classes of equipment operated, as well as maintaining and possessing a current state drivers license. Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country. This position is located in Moose, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow. Government housing is available as this position is a required occupant.

ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION (SCREEN OUT) Applicants must show in their application package that they have the ability to do all of the following: install, maintain, troubleshoot, operate and repair the most common types of electrical systems including residential, commercial, and low voltage, that also includes working with some associated equipment, controllers, circuits, wiring systems, low voltage electrical systems and devices and associated components. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.
