This position is located in the Pentagon Heating and Refrigeration Plant (PHRP), under the Washington Headquarters Services (WHS), Facilities Services Directorate (FSD), and Federal Facilities Division (FFD). The PHRP runs on a 7-day, 3-shift plan. The Plant is responsible for the production of steam and chilled water as well as the disposal of sewage. The Plant generates high pressure steam and chilled water to supply the heating and cooling needs of the Pentagon.

Duties

This is a Direct Hire Public Notice, under this recruitment, applications will be accepted for each location and/or installation identified in this Public Notice and selections are made for vacancies as they occur. There may or may not be actual/projected vacancies at the time you submit your application. This Public Notice is to gather applications which may or may not result in a referral or selection. This position is being filled under Direct Hire Authority (DHA) in accordance with Section 1109 of FY 2020 NDAA; P.L. 116-92 and Section 9905 of Title 5, U.S.C. Please read this Public Notice in its entirety prior to submitting your application for consideration. Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following: Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repairs high voltage electrical generating equipment and associated controls in the Pentagon Heating and Refrigeration Plant. Perform work on high voltage equipment such as switchgear, vacuum and air circuit breakers, fuse cabinets, capacitors, contactors, motors, gang-operated switches, cutouts, lightning arrestors, generators and transformers (pad and pole mounted). Stand watch with the Electric Power Controller in PHRP on a rotating shift basis. Prepare documentation to initiate procurement of replacement electrical or electronic components. Regularly check the operating equipment and record essential data for use in preventing malfunctions.

  • The incumbent must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
  • The incumbent must have the ability to obtain and maintain a 3rd class Stationary Engineer license or other equivalent license within 2 years of employment.
  • This position is designated as a MISSION ESSENTIAL, the incumbent may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations
  • This position requires you to work rotating shifts, weekends, overtime, holidays and may be subject to call 24 hours a day.
  • The incumbent must successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination with medical certification to wear a negative pressure respirator and pass an annual physical exam thereafter.

Read more about what should I include in my federal resume? at https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/faq/application/documents/resume/what-to-include/ You may qualify at the WG 11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the WG 10 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: Peform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of industrial electrical and electronic systems and equipment associated with underground buildings and structures and Class A power generating plants, primary and secondary distribution systems such as blast protection systems, electromagnetic pulse filters, ground fault sensing circuits. Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high voltage electrical generating equipment and controls associated with a Class A power plant. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
