Duties
The incumbent will make repairs to housing and building interiors and exteriors, which will include the following required trades:
Carpentry
Painting
Plumbing
Roofing
Electrical
Cement Finishing
Masonry
This position will also maintain landscapes, campgrounds, and yards. Will work from oral and written instructions, work orders, building plans, blueprints, and sketches to complete installations, modifications, and repairs independently and assist others.
This position requires a current driver's license for motor vehicle operator duties. The incumbent will operate and perform operator maintenance on cars, trucks, and/or van and stake trucks to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work. May operate a dump truck to haul earth, gravel, sand, and similar materials and/or debris. Operates a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment in a variety of situations. May maintain cars and light duty trucks in performing tune-ups filter changes, lubrication, tire repair and/or replacement, and minor electrical, fuel, cooling, and exhaust system repairs.
Career-Seasonal position subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season is from February to January, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.
Lees Ferry District Area Information: Lees Ferry is located 45 miles from Page, Arizona and 130 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Lees Ferry looks out on beautiful Colorado River which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Lees Ferry is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands.
Page Area Information: Page overlooks beautiful Lake Powell which offers a variety of water sports including boating, fishing, and river running on the Colorado River above and below Lake Powell. The surrounding land is beautiful red rock country perfect for hiking, hunting, and backcountry activities. Page is at the hub of the Grand Circle which contains America's largest concentration of national parks and monuments, such as, Grand Canyon, Zion, Capitol Reef, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands, Grand Staircase-Escalante, and the Flagstaff Area Monuments. Page offers normal small community amenities such as an airport, shopping, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12, and college courses available through the local Community College. The elevation is 4300 feet with high-desert sunny days, cool nights, and low humidity. Home purchases are available in the area. Government housing may be available by a bid process.
Qualifications
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires motor vehicle operator duties. You must have valid driver's license at the time of applying; and you must be able to maintain that license as a condition of employment. Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades: (1) Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.); (2) Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces); (3) Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.); (4) Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles); (5) Electrical (repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures; (6) Cement Finishing (building and setting forms for sidewalks and steps, mixes pours, spreads, and levels cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing; (7) Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications).
