This position is the supervisor of the Facility Maintenance Division. The primary purpose of this position is to manage, direct, plan, control, and evaluate the building, utilities, grounds, trails and custodial maintenance functions of the park. Duties

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and work direction of buildings and utilities trades, crafts, trails, grounds, and janitorial facility operations. Serve as Project Supervisor, Contracting Officer's Representative (COR), and Agreements Technical Representative (ATR). Provide professional and technical support and knowledge on utilities, trades, and crafts such as electrical, HVAC, potable water system operation, drainage, storm and sanitary sewer systems, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, trails, grounds keeping and janitorial services. Perform administrative functions for their maintenance group, such as preparing Human Resources packages for recruiting, classification, off-boarding; reviewing and approving payroll, leave, and extra hours requests; and scheduling. Serve as the principle assistant to the Supervisory Facility Operations Specialist. Physical Demands: Work sites will range from office settings to outdoor temperature extremes of -10 degrees Fin the winter and +90 degrees F. The work site can be dusty, contain fumes and other hazardous materials. Subject to cuts, flying splinters and chips, and injury from power and hand tools. Employee will at times be required to wear protective equipment such as respirator, hearing protection, hard hat, clothing and eye protection and must meet physical requirements to do so. Occasionally must lift and handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to reach, stretch, bend, turn and move body, hands, arms, feet, and legs to accomplish work. Must be capable of climbing difficult trails, requiring use of both hands and both feet. Able to negotiate trails with slippery rock foot and hand holds and steep cliff exposure to potential falls. Working Conditions: During the winter season and as required, incumbent performs a variety of duties such as assisting with other maintenance work, tree and brush trimming, equipment maintenance, snow removal, and general maintenance. Area Information: Located in the Jemez Mountains of north-central New Mexico, the 89,000-acre Valles Caldera National Preserve encompasses a 13-mile-wide dormant volcanic caldera. Its distinct topographic mosaic of expansive valley meadows, lush forested volcanic domes, meandering valley streams, and old-growth ponderosa pine groves are in striking contrast to the arid New Mexico landscapes at lower elevations. The park offers a wide range of recreational opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, skiing, and snowshoeing. Park headquarters is located in the village of Jemez Springs, and the park is located halfway between Jemez Springs and the town of Los Alamos. Work area elevation ranges from 6,200 feet to 11,257 feet. Summer temperatures can range from the 30s to the 80s (Fahrenheit). Winter temperatures can drop well below zero. Snowfall occurs generally from November to as late as May. The closest communities with schools and services are Rio Rancho, Jemez Springs, and Los Alamos. The nearest airports are in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Housing rentals range from $1,200-$3,000 for a two-bedroom/two-bathroom place.
