The primary purpose of these positions is to operate one or more motor vehicles, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds. For additional questions about this position contact Kyle Peterson at [email protected].

Duties

Operates motor vehicles such as but not limited to pickup trucks with and without trailers and heavy equipment such as front-end loaders, sewage trucks, water trucks, and garbage trucks. Performs maintenance to vehicles and equipment operated such as checking and topping off fluids, checking tires, or cleaning. Performs maintenance work such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical tasks. Performs custodial duties such as sweeping, scrubbing, waxing floors, cleaning deodorize lavatories, urinals, toilets, and sinks. Performs masonry work of limited difficulty such as assisting in the maintenance, repair, and stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe and/or contemporary buildings, features or structures. Physical Effort: Moderate physical effort is needed by this position in operating, turning, backing, and controlling vehicles which carry heavy loads or a large number of people. Required to frequently lift items weighing over 50 pounds. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires and make limited emergency repairs, such as installing an emergency fan belt or replacing an electrical fuse on open highways. Working Conditions: Incumbent is required to work outside and is exposed to extreme hot and cold temperatures. Operates vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Area Information: Bandelier National Monument is comprised of over 32,817 acres, including a designated wilderness area of 23,267 acres and an 800-acre detached archeological section. The monument was created to preserve the numerous archeological and natural features that hold ancestral and traditional significance to 23 tribal nations. The monument's natural resources have been extensively surveyed and hold some of the most complete data sets for climate transition that exist in North America. Annual visitation exceeds 200,000. The monument is located 45 miles from Santa Fe, 32 miles from Espanola, and 12 miles from Los Alamos. Elevation ranges from 5,300 to 10,199 feet with headquarters located at 6,000 feet. Medical facilities, schools, and shopping are available in Los Alamos and White Rock. Los Alamos has one of the nation's best public-school systems. Cultural and recreational opportunities are abundant in Santa Fe and surrounding communities. Local cost of living is considered high. Government housing may be available.
