This position is located in Death Valley National Park, in the Cultural Resources Division. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service. Open to the first 101 applicants or until 10/08/2024 whichever comes first. Duties

Operates and maintains a variety of sampling, monitoring, and recording equipment. Conducts surveys of hazards and inventories of historic features resulting from abandoned mining features such as adits, shafts, slides or wastes or spoil material, inundations, etc. Reviews and/or contributes to various park planning, management, and interpretive efforts and documents as they pertain to AML program planning. Uses Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to record AML sites and projects and generate professional quality maps. Death Valley National Park A land of superlatives, Death Valley is THE hottest place on earth, and also one of the lowest and driest. In-Park staff live in a caring community of employees who share many of the same values or commute from a nearby community such as Beatty, NV or Pahrump, NV. A van-share program may be available for candidates in Pahrump, NV. Death Valley is a quiet place to live and yet one can find all the amenities needed within an hour drive. The nearest school is a part of the Death Valley Unified School District in Shoshone, California which services K-12th grade. Bus service is available for students in the park. Off duty employees also enjoy attending regional events in Las Vegas or Los Angeles, exploring the local desert roads/trails/peaks, camping in surrounding high elevation forest land, skiing in Mammoth, and recreating in Yosemite and Sequoia. The Park values co-management with the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe and candidates that join our team can expect to work with the local THPO and tribal monitors. Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/08/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN GS-1311-7: To qualify for this position at the GS-7 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-6 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience is defined as one or more of the following: Assisted in conducting background studies, field examinations, field surveys, and inventories, and document reviews pertaining to abandoned mineral land (AML) or physical science (geology, geophysics,hydrology, physics,etc.) project development; Participated in physical science survey and site evaluation work and preparation of technical reports; Used Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to record locations and sites for physical science based projects. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 1 full year of graduate level education. Such education must be directly related to the work of this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
