About the Position: Serves as the Prevention Coordinator (PC) and Suicide Prevention Program Manager (SPPM), developing and administering an installation wide ASAP and Suicide Prevention education/awareness programs to include goals, objectives and milestones for military and civilian employees, their family members, military and civilian retirees, and personnel of other tenant or support elements of the installation.

Duties

Plans, develops, and conducts public/community awareness programs. Assists in the development of local on-going substance abuse prevention programs involving Soldiers and DA Civilians. Uses a broad range of methods in a variety of settings and environments to include, but not limited to, screenings, and evaluations for referral, short term counseling, and referral services for treatment or rehabilitation as appropriate. Assists in the development of local on-going substance abuse prevention programs involving youth, parents, and other concerned adults from the surrounding civilian communities. Monitors and inspects soldier education to ensure technical competency in the subject matter areas of alcohol and drug abuse. Implements training and monitoring of the Risk Reduction Program. Coordinates education and training provided to high-risk units by other organizations and may be required to assist other activities with related or linked problems in RRP. Develops an installation-wide Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Prevention Education Plan of Instruction. Assist with maintaining operating policies and procedures for the operations at the Drug Collection Point that involves collecting, documenting, recording, packaging, shipping, and reporting of test results.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
  • This position requires you to obtain and maintain the Unit Prevention Leader (UPL) course and split sample urine collector training within three years of assuming the duties.
  • This position requires you to complete the Department of the Army Drug Testing Coordinator (DTC) Certification Course within nine months of assuming the duties.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes applying the principles, methods and practices of behavioral/social sciences to evaluate the need for direct services, training, and coordination with other agencies regarding the Suicide Prevention Program and the Substance Abuse Program; developing training materials, methods and techniques for the Suicide Prevention and Army Substance Abuse Program for active duty and civilians members of an installation; briefing senior leadership on matters pertaining to Army Substance Abuse and Suicide Prevention; assisting with inspections of prevention program to ensure technical competency and regulatory requirements are being met.
