About the Position: This position serves as an Ammunition Surveillance Inspector conducting functions and duties in support and accomplishment of the Quality Assurance, Ammunition Surveillance Program for the safety, logistics, serviceability and reliability of ammunition/explosives and associated operations.
Duties
Conduct physical inspections of inbound and outbound empty and loaded transportation assets and conveyances (trucks and vehicles) provided for shipment for compliance prior to loading.
Inspect, monitor and evaluate loading process, and conduct inspection of loaded containers/pallets for compliance with specific item technical loading drawing requirements.
Inspect small arms ammunition to ensure segregation of ball and blank ammunition.
Conduct technical inspections, operations and activities in the receipt, shipment, handling, inspection, storage, safety, and logistics functions involving conventional ammunition items, large/small rockets and guided missiles used and stored.
Enforce safety regulations to operating personnel to assure safe storage, compatibility, explosive limits.
Conduct visual, mechanical, functional, static or dimensional tests in workshop, at storage location, or on a firing range.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment mandatory drug screening, submit to random testing thereafter, and sign the DA Form 5019R (condition of employment) for mandatory drug testing.
- Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Position covered by 1998 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968 (18 U.S.C. 922). Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime or domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
- Must be cleared in accordance with requirements of AR190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition and Explosives.
- Must meet the requirements of DA PAM 385-64 and FORSCOM 700-4, Training and Certification Program for personnel working in ammunition operations.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as the mission dictates.
- Must submit to and pass a pre-employment physical.
- Must be willing to conduct work while being exposed to ammunition and explosives, both packages and loose.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Physical Effort: Duties involve frequent walking, bending, stooping and standing for long periods on various surfaces and in work areas in tiring uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting up to 40 pounds is required; as well as lifting of over 40 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions: Works under extremely hazardous conditions as regards to exposure to ammunition and explosives both in packaged and loose form. Work is done inside in areas that are hot, cold, damp, drafty, or poorly lighted or outside in prevailing weather conditions. Work will be performed in both a warehouse and field environment. Work may be dirty, dusty and greasy. The worker is exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, falls or accidents with moving equipment. Employee is required to wear safety shoes, coveralls, face shields, goggles, masks, gloves, hard hat, hearing protection and/or other safety equipment and clothing while engaged in various surveillance operations and inspections.
