This position is located in Chickasaw National Recreation Area, in the Resource Management Division.

Duties

- Oversees Resources Program, serving as the senior principal advisor in the management of natural and cultural resources and is responsible for program development and implementation. - Carries out program management duties by developing work plans and schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals and/or grants to justify funding request and accomplish goals. - Identifies research needs, prepares requests for proposals or statements of work, and provides oversight for research projects. - Develops and maintains effective working relations with Native Americans, other traditional associations, and related groups, agencies, and the public; represents the superintendent when working with others on resource stewardship. - Supervises permanent, and temporary employees, as well as volunteers.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-10/07/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. The position has a basic requirement. You must have the required education or equivalent experience to satisfy the basic requirement for this position. Additionally, applicants must meet the minimum qualification requirement for this series and grade to be considered qualified. You must meet one of the following Basic Qualifications to be considered for this position. You must meet this by the close of the announcement. This is an interdisciplinary position; therefore, applicants will be considered for a range of occupational fields (occupational series) based on qualifications and experience. Occupational series in which applications will be accepted are outlined below. General History Series 0170 (opm.gov) Applicants must have one of the following and submit documentation in their application on how they meet this requirement: 1. Degree: history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. or 2. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. General Archeology Series 0193 (opm.gov) Applicants must have one of the following and submit documentation in their application on how they meet this requirement: A. Education: 1. Degree that included 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archeology. Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa. Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development. Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating, and analytical techniques. Archeological field school, to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techniques, and report preparation by participation in actual field work. and Six semester hours of related course work in: geography, geology, or cultural geography; history, historiography, or historical archeology; environmental studies; scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or surveying; and Archeological field school. 2. Related Curriculum: degree in anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school). or B. Combination of education and experience: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. or C. Experience: Four years of archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series 0401 (opm.gov) Applicants must have one of the following and submit documentation in their application on how they meet this requirement: 1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or 2. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. General Physical Science Series, 1301 (opm.gov) Applicants must have one of the following and submit documentation in their application on how they meet this requirement: 1. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. or 2. Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. - AND- To qualify for this position at the GS-12 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience should include applying laws, regulations, policies or professional judgment in the protection of natural resources. Examples of qualifying experience may include professional natural resource work in vegetation, wildlife, sensitive species, exotic and pest species, soils, geology, hydrology, paleontology, other physical sciences, and range management. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify for the basic qualifications only based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement.
