This position is located in the Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, Executive Office for Immigration Review, U. S. Department of Justice. Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Interpreter in an Immigration Court. The incumbent functions as an interpreter and the supervisor of Immigration court interpreters. This is a Competitive Service position; additional positions may be filled from this announcement within 90 days of certificate issuance.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Supervising the Immigration Court interpreter staff within the designated Immigration Court,
Organizing and coordinating the staff's duties to promote efficient operation and orderly delivery of services,
Modifies assignments to meet changing needs within the organization,
Explains work requirements, methods and procedures to interpreters, giving special instruction on difficult assignments and answering technical questions about work,
Coordinates the schedules of contract interpreters,
Performs the full range of court interpretation duties consisting in large part of consecutive and simultaneous interpretation,
Translates a wide variety of general, technical and legal materials received by the immigration court,
Assists OCIJ in processing evaluations for the performance of contract interpreters,
Reviews court calendars to determine interpreter staffing needs, and
Resolve employee complaints, referring group grievances and unresolved complaints to upper management.

Qualifications
In order to qualify for the Supervisory Interpreter position, you must meet the following time in grade requirements and minimum qualifications:
TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the 12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the 13 level. (Please submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. If your eligibility for both merit promotion and/or time-in-grade cannot be determined, your application will be rated ineligible. Please see Required Documents for additional information).
FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: in
Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Interpreting and translating a variety of topics in a court in Spanish and English;
Organizing the language services program of a court; and
Researching new subjects, developments, and terminology to prepare linguistically for legal proceedings.

Selective Placement Factor: Must have one (1) year of experience performing the full range of consecutive and simultaneously interpretations from and into Spanish and English in a courtroom before a judge.
