About the Position: Incumbent provides paralegal and administrative assistance to the Soldiers Medical Evaluation Board (MEB)Counsel and Legal Assistance Attorneys in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate

Duties

Conduct legal analysis for attorneys to prepare for legal opinions, legal memoranda, and briefs. Provide paralegal support to assigned attorneys providing legal services to service members. Interview and counsel clients, medical personnel, and other agencies who are working with the service member. Collect detailed statistical and informational data for continuous external reports. Provide paralegal support for the Soldiers' Medical Evaluation Board Counsel (SMEBC) and legal services to Soldiers undergoing disability processing and Medical Evaluation Boards (MEB). Prepare contents of legal documents such as witness requests, appeals, powers of attorney, affidavits, etc.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1. Assists in interpreting laws, regulations, and/or other guidance., 2. Assists interviewing potential witnesses and/or other clients. and 3. Prepares summaries of cases, interviews and related case material for the attorney's use. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as any degree with a concentration in Pre-Law or Paralegal Studies, etc. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Administration and ManagementCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Technical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
