Duties

Serve as Senior Clothing Designer and technical consultant in the Technical Branch (TA-FQSA), Supplier Support Division (FQS), Clothing and Textiles Directorate (TA-FQ), DLA Troop Support. Serve as a Senior team member, providing technical assistance to other team members including operation and maintenance of the CAD equipment. Accomplish assigned special projects concerning complex technical and system problems relating to computer aided design (CAD) and pattern management for a wide variety of garments for special measurement and production purposes. Maintain inventory of patterns, CAD, and ozalids from Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and other Federal agencies. Create, digitize, convert or adjust complex and custom pattern pieces. Create style files, grade rule table files, annotation files and alteration files for a wide variety of military clothing, equipage items, and uniform apparel. Assist Service CAD offices with implementation of pattern design projects when needed to assure that DLA procurement goals are met. Calculate anticipated fabric usage for use in government cost estimates.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Clothing Designer (Patterns), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: The design and development of highly tailored outer garments or specialized occupational clothing such as aviators' and paratroopers' clothing, submarine escape suits, coveralls, field jackets, helmets, footgear, or other clothing for a particular functional or occupational purpose. Demonstrated knowledge of layout and fabrication methods involving primarily pattern making or grading. Knowledge of multiple CAD software systems and equipment in order to accomplish assigned work including storing master patterns, assist others in equipment operation and maintenance, etc. Ability to provide technical advice and guidance on assigned projects in order to review technical data, conduct preliminary negotiations, and make recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
