Job opening: PLUMBER

Salary: $29 - 34 per hour

You will serve as a PLUMBER in the Public Works of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will read and interpret work orders and sketches to determine measurements for plumbing assignments. You will use hand or power pipe threaders and cutters to cut and thread pipes to correct size and length. You will plan initial layout to final assembly of systems by using building plans, blueprints, sketches, and other plumbing guides or codes. You will align pipes, valves, fittings, joints, braces, and supports to control movement, vibration, expansion, and contraction. You will use measurements specified in work orders to cut, bend, thread, and assemble pipes for fabricating piping systems or sections of piping systems. You will use shop mathematics to accomplish assigned plumbing projects.

Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Installing, modifying, repairing new and existing utility, supply and disposal systems and equipment within facility infrastructures (sewage, water, oil and gas distribution systems) in order to locate and tap into main lines, locate system routes, placing and cutting and installing valves and unions, etc; 2) Interpreting building plans and blueprints and apply shop mathematics to determine lay out piping systems and plumbing to include angles, arcs, and circles; 3) Utilizing skills in the use of the accepted trade methods and techniques, such as wiping and pouring lead; 4) Planning and laying out the installation and modification of plumbing systems and reviewing blueprints building plans or specifications to troubleshoot issues with plumbing systems; 5) Reviewing other plumbers' work for proper operation, flow, pressure drainage, and sanitation; performing overhaul work on plumbing systems.
