Duties
The Behavior Specialist Consultant works proactively to build the capacity of families and direct care Professionals in both preventing and responding to challenging behaviors and reactively in formulating appropriate responses to challenging behaviors. A majority of the position duties are performed within the CYP to (1) provide CYP with observations and recommendations regarding social-emotional environments and assist in identifying participants (children and youth) who require special assistance for behavior, social-emotional, or developmental needs, (2) help CYP teams implement curricula regarding conflict resolution, emotional regulation, and social skills development (3) lead and facilitate the USMC Behavior Support Process as a member of the Accommodations Collaboration Team (ACT) and the Inclusion Action Team (IAT), (4) assist staff in positive behavior guidance and promoting optimal social-emotional development. The CYP responsibilities are grouped into categories, including classroom and program support, non-clinical assessment, training, compliance, and additional responsibilities. Each is described below.

Qualifications
(1) A master's degree (preferred) in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or Behavioral Science or a related field of study AND 2 years of Professional experience working with children and/or youth. Education or training focused on Behavior Intervention is required. OR (2) A 4-year degree in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, or Behavioral Science or related field of study AND 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth. Education or training focused on Behavior Intervention is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Child Care (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications. May be required to obtain a government driver¿s license. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of functional behavior assessment, child development, disability law, early intervention and special education, positive behavior intervention and support (PBIS), trauma-informed practices, behavior support plans, crisis intervention and/or mediation, administrative practices and organizational procedures common to child development and/or special education programs. Skilled in oral and written communication.
