Duties
As a HEALTH SYSTEM SPECIALIST at the GS-0671-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
Serve as a senior USTRANSCOM Joint Medical Planner.
Serve as a senior medical Exercise planner.
Serves as a senior patient movement functional expert.
Serves as a Senior Medical Planner for Crisis and Execution.
Requirements
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial
aircraft/vehicle to conferences, meetings, or functions away from the duty office/location. Travel may include overnight stays.
- Requires short and extended periods of TDY within and outside of the continental United States
- This position must be removed from the Ready Reserve and cannot become a member of the Ready Reserve.(IA W: DoDD 1200.7, "Screening the Ready Reserve,"

- This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8140, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties.
Qualifications
You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
Assessment and improvement of command level plans and programs for conducting major patient movement operations
Skill to apply fact-finding, analytical, problem-solving methods, and techniques to plan, organize and facilitate assigned studies or projects.
Leading strategic/policy and tactical discussions and/or input related to policies, formalization of advances/modification in patient movement program management.
Working with the DoD Patient Movement System to manage, coordinate and/or transport patients to definitive care. *Interpreting, Implementing and/or developing policies and doctrine for patient
Managing taskings through the Global Force Management system.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
