The primary purpose of this position, POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, WG-5378-11, is to serve as a Powered Support Systems Mechanic in support of the Air Force Space Command Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Minuteman III and Peacekeeper Weapon Systems, performing Depot level and Time Compliance Technical Order modification (TCTO).
Duties
1. Test, troubleshoot, repair, adapt, and modify various unique Nuclear Missile Weapon Systems and components in both Launch and Missile Alert Facilities
2. Install, maintain, repair, troubleshoot, modify, inoperable or malfunctioning air conditioning units at ICBM missile alert facilities and launch facilities.
3. Modify, troubleshoot and repair Missile electronic subsystems such as programmer group, digital data group and systems distribution box containing essential system resistors, rectifiers, switches, relays, capacitors, and regulators.
4. Perform as Assistant Team Chief with specific responsibilities along with the Team Chief to perform complex Missile System site entry and exit procedures, using Missile Entry Control System compounded with a unique Missile Electronic Encryption Device that does not allow for error.
5. Repair water leaks, cracks and bulges in steel liner of the Launch Facility Primary Access, Launch Tube, Launcher equipment room, Launch Control Center and Launch Control equipment room liners, electrical, communication and refrigerant coolant conduits using a variety of specialized tools, equipment and hazardous materials.

- Must be able to qualify Firearms Shotgun training.

- Must meet all requirements of the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP) IA W AFI 36-2104 permitting work on or in close proximity of critical components and/or nuclear devices. Position is Critical PRP Code "A".
- Must be able to certify explosive ordnance handling
- Must be able to acquire CPR certification.
- May be required to certify as Hazardous Materials/Waste Operations and Emergency Response Team Member IAW OSHA 29 CFR 1910-120.
- May be required to certify for Processing Chlorofluorocarbon and Halon Chlorofluocarbon Refrigerants IAW OSHA 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Crawling, bending and standing in various tiring and strained positions in very tight places. Requires lifting, carrying and pulling equipment weighing up to 25 pounds on a regular basis without assistance. On occasions may be required to assist in lifting and carrying items weighing over 25 pounds either manually or with mechanical devices. Reaching and working overhead while standing on ladders, scaffolding and elevator work platforms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works in areas of hazardous explosives, rocket engine propellant MMH, toxic vapors and fluids, high noise, high pneumatic and hydraulic pressures and often extreme weather conditions with below zero temperatures, severe winds averaging 50 MPH and wind chills of 40 degrees below zero. Exposure to Hantavirus (a deadly rodent spread virus), dirt, grease, oil and various cleaning chemicals. Will often work at heights up to 90 feet in confined areas. Must comply with missile safety requirements and wear all required safety equipment for each task. All areas within the missile facilities require Two Person Concept at all times.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
