You will serve as the Installation Safety Officer (Safety and Occupational Health Specialist) of NAVAL SUPPORT ACTIVITY BETHESDA.

Duties

You will develop and revise safety and occupational health instructions, rules and regulations applicable to operations, industrial and marine fleet activities. You will plan and carry out work place safety inspections and surveys evaluating vehicle servicing operation, inspecting diverse vehicle services, maintenance shops, and warehouses. You will prepare survey reports for the commanding officer identifying unsafe operations and conditions, specifying corrective actions required. You will evaluate a wide variety of hazardous operations related to installation mission including disassembly and assembly of vehicle, movement of toxic and flammable materials, etc. You will develop and conduct a comprehensive safety education program through formal training sessions, guest lectures, and supervisor-employee discussions; publicizing safety articles and disseminating safety educational materials. You will consult and maintain liaison with other safety and health personnel such as industrial hygienists to resolve occupational health hazards, civil engineers regarding alterations of buildings.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating a 24-hour safety and occupational health program.; 2) Advising principal staff members of tenant commands of safety and occupational health requirements, standards, and procedures; 3) Assessing safety and occupational health hazards related to contractor activities such as repair of maintaining ground facilities; 4) Establishing guides and encouraging supervisor-employee safety committees to identify and eliminate hazardous equipment operations and unsafe working conditions.
