The Maintenance Worker is assigned to the Facilities Management Service of the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center and independently performs standard, common and more routine carpentry, plastering, and masonry and painting tasks and assists experienced, skilled journeymen on more complex, unusual and difficult tasks such as plumbing and light electrical tasks.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following: Perform carpentry work which involves measuring cutting and constructing or repairing wood. Plan and measure material according to requirements and dimensions outlined in instructions. Perform masonry work for maintenance, repair and construction for a variety of structures. Perform standard coating methods such as brushing, rolling and spraying. Applies paints, varnishes and shellacs. Prepare surfaces by methods such as sanding and wire brushing. Maintain all interior and exterior signage. Use computerized signage equipment to fabricate signage for special events. Repair and reconfigure office and ward furniture. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Most work is performed in side buildings, usually adequately lighted, heated and ventilated. Occasionally, work is performed outside or in a very hot or unventilated area. Exposure to sawdust and mortar dust occurs frequently while working in shop and areas. Work is occasionally performed from ladders and scaffolds.
