About the Position: The position is located at the Sacramento Market 60TH MDG TRAVIS CA located at the Directorate of Executive Medical Squadron Command. Preferred experience as Veterinarian Technician

Duties

The primary purpose of this position is: to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate animal caretakers; to maintain accurate records of animal care. Perform routine animal care and clinical veterinary procedures; to conduct anesthesia procedures and support surgery protocols, and to collect biomedical data and specimens in support of the clinical research program. Conduct clinical veterinary procedures, laboratory tests, administers medications, and keeps accurate records. Perform routine clinical veterinary procedures including monitoring animal health status, conducting physical examinations, and collection of blood, urine, fecal, and other biological specimens. Prepares animals for surgery. Serves as surgical circulator or scrub technician.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • Required to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties. Pre-employment physical required and annually thereafter.
  • This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing laboratory animal care required to transport, prepare, and position animals for surgical procedures; assist veterinarians and surgery team members; and to administer medications and drugs. Use sterile operative techniques needed to prepare research animals for surgery; assist veterinarians and surgical team members; to clean, calibrate, and maintain surgical equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
