Must possess the skill and knowledge to supervise, plan, direct, and administer housekeeping and sanitation activities of the operational team of the sanitation, linen distribution and recycling sections of Environmental Management Service at the Mann-Grandstaff VAMC in Spokane, WA. Incumbent has substantially full supervisory responsibility for control over work operation and is accountable to Chief, EMS for the quality and quantity of the work performed.
Duties
Duties include but not limited to:
-Assigns employees to tasks as required, and instructs them in any changes in routine work
assignments or methods.
-Makes frequent inspections to determine whether employees are at their
assigned locations performing their duties efficiently, linens are in appropriate place in the appropriate
quantity and recycle is removed and disposed appropriately.
-Required by the work load, vacations, emergencies, etc., reassigns personnel to secure maximum coverage.
-Reviews work in progress and completed work and, as required, indicates areas which need to be redone; advises employees on difficult cleaning problems such as spot removals, etc. as required, approves leave requests and recommends conversion of probationary employees.
-Sets performance for subordinates and provides formal appraisals of work performance.
-Initiates recommendations for promotion or reassignment of subordinates.
-Counsels employees, adjusts informal complaints and grievances through discussion
with employees and union representatives; Initiates disciplinary actions as needed.
-Ensures that reports of injury are made and follow-up action is completed and effective to minimize future incidents of the same nature.
-Schedules employees for attendance at safety, haz-com, emergency management and other essential training.
-Makes frequent inspections to determine whether adequate sanitation standards are being maintained
as well as if employees are at their assigned locations performing their duties efficiently in compliance
with instructions.
-During inspection, evaluate equipment; such as buffers and scrubbing machines; to
determine if repairs are necessary or if there is evidence of improper use.
-As necessary, prepare work orders for repairs, recommends replacement of equipment, and provides hands on training for employees.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Physical Requirements: The physical demands of the position will be that normally required of a housekeeping aid. Some heavy lifting (equipment and materials) (100lb with assistance), movement of furniture required along with the stamina to perform physical labor. Continuous walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting, arduous physical effort is required in the performance of manual tasks described; such as washing walls above five feet and operating powered equipment over extended periods of time when providing training to employees etc.
Working conditions such as ventilation and environment are satisfactory. Incumbent may be subject to
occasional noise, skin irritations, cuts, and bruises. The work performed requires continuous walking
when making inspections in the various buildings. When occasionally performing cleaning tasks,
moderate effort is expended. Must have thorough knowledge of specialized cleaning and sanitation
techniques, materials and equipment in order to instruct employees.
