This position is part of the Warfare Centers Personnel Demonstration Project. The ND-5 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-14 and GS-15. The ND-4 pay band encompasses positions equivalent to the GS-12 and GS-13. You will serve as an Advanced Development Dry End Engineering Team Lead (ETL) in the PROTOTYPE DEVELOPMENT BRANCH of NAVUNSEAWARCENDIV NEWPORT RI. Salary: ND-5 $116,820 - $191,900 ND-4 $81,963 - $151,870

Duties

You will be responsible for day to day technical execution and leadership of the Advanced Processing Build and Advanced Capabilities Build (AxB) project teams. You will have direct interaction with the Integrated Warfare Systems Program Office (IWS 5A) to establish yearly task assignments, negotiate funding levels, manage workload and provide risk assessment and project status. You will guide and integrate the efforts of task leaders involved in requirements generation, systems engineering and test and evaluation. You will work with other NUWCDIVNPT departments, government activities, academia and industry to acquire needed technical expertise. You will coordinate joint product development and delivery. You will provide support to CHENG’s that work hand-in-hand with the project Lead Systems Engineers (LSEs) and TPMs to solve problems. You will be responsible for providing multi-faceted solutions to complex technical or programmatic issues associated for acoustic performance prediction of complex sonars in various ocean environments. You will focus will be on transitioning technology across the bridge from research and development(RandD) into production engineering and ultimately to the warfighter.

Qualifications

This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled by a Mechanical Engineer (0830-series), a Computer Engineer (0854-series), an Electronics Engineer (0855-series), a Mathematician (1520-series), or a Computer Scientist (1550-series) depending upon the qualifications of the candidate. Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. For the Mathematics 1520 series:
Basic Requirements:
  1. Degree: mathematics; or the equivalent of a major that included at least 24 semester hours in mathematics.
    or
  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in mathematics (including at least 24 semester hours in mathematics), as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
The total course work in either A or B above must have included differential and integral calculus and, in addition, four advanced mathematics courses requiring calculus or equivalent mathematics courses as a prerequisite.

For the Computer Science 1550 Series:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.
