Duties

Initiates and processes emergency Material Release Orders (MROs) using all modes of shipment, researching, investigating, and resolving discrepancies for inbound/outbound shipments which may be over, short, damaged, or misdirected. Performs freight shipment and transportation functions. Resolves discrepancies for inbound/outbound shipments. Conducts inspections to retrieve astray freight. Performs extensive research utilizing various supply systems, checks storage locations and/or staging areas to determine the validity of the complaint.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Transportation Assistant, your qualifications must include: Specialized Experience: To qualify at the GS-06 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. Examples of specialized experience are identified in the Major Duties section of this vacancy announcement and may also include: - Conducting research and executing processes to clear late lines - Providing status to customers, the DDC, and Inventory Control Points (ICPs) - Conducting carrier terminal visits to locate and process astray freight Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
