The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a work leader, to provide training, certification and knowledge of Metal Tube Maker working directly with journeymen and non-journeymen performing all tasks assigned to Metal Tube Makers. Also requires the performance of the full tasks of a journeyman Metal Tube Maker.
Duties
-Provides guidance and passes on to others instructions received from the supervisor and gets work started.
-Manufactures complex routine and non-routine aerospace tubes from raw stock of different metals, metal alloys, specialized alloys, and other materials through the use of conventional and/or computer numerical control (CNC) machines.
-Makes complex repairs to aerospace tubes, ducts and manifolds on non-routine and routine work, that require a high level of mechanical ingenuity and ability to prototype. Manufacture and test various types of hose assemblies.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-3800 Metal Work Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is Ability to Lead or Supervise.
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of Equipment, Structure, Materials, etc. (includes constructing repair, and forging)
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
Layout and Pattern Development (includes Geometric Projection and Triangulation)
Ability to Use Hand Tools, Power Tools, etc., for Metal Work
Dexterity (Assembly Disassembly Reassembly, etc.)
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside and is subjected to a moderate amount of noise and vibration from shop machines and to a variety of weather conditions. Subject to cuts, bruises, falls, and burns. Is exposed to fumes, heat and flying sparks. Shop areas normally have adequate lighting and ventilation. Required to wear safety glasses and face shields when performing eye hazardous operations.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
