This position is established to provide a full-time, first-level supervisor in the Electronics Unit, Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service at the Dayton VA Medical Center. The Dayton VAMC is a complexity level 1 facility with approximately 63 buildings/structures and over 1.6 million square footage on 240+ acres and four geographically separated Community Based Outpatient Clinics.

Duties

Nature of Supervisory Responsibility The incumbent is a supervisor within the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service with knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), JCAHO, and Environment of Care Standards and responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of all electronic maintenance and repair of the buildings and facilities, elevators and automatic door systems at this Medical Center. Incumbent must possess ability to maintain, repair, replace and troubleshoot a wide variety of complex electronic equipment issues. Establish and manage maintenance procedures following manufacturer's instructions and established procedures for maintenance and repair service. Have the ability to supervise employees of the Electronics, Elevator, Industrial Electronic Controls and Door Units; manage and direct corrective actions in response to system failures; have a working knowledge of proper troubleshooting techniques and the ability to read building prints, schematics, wmng diagrams, and maintenance manuals. Planning The work of the Electronics Unit is closely related to the work of other units within Engineering Service. Confer with engineers, customers, and others to discuss existing or potential engineering projects and products. The incumbent determines equipment, material, and maintenance required. Assures that material is ordered and available at the work site to prevent delay. Work Direction The incumbent will, on various occasions, be called upon for technical advice in connection with construction projects and,· on occasions, will be asked to inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with specifications. Administration Incumbent assists in developing performance standards, schedules training, initiates performance ratings and needed counseling, and recommends or initiates disciplinary action. Investigates grievances and complaints, resolves them informally and notifies superiors of those of a serious nature. This requires the employee to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. The work requires frequently lifting and carrying of tools, equipment and parts that weight up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds. The work is performed both inside and outside. The electrician is sometimes required to make repairs and installations in bad weather and work in areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more and in close quarters such as manholes and attics. There is exposure to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and injuries from rotary devices such as electrical motors and is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position.
