This position is located in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Salisbury VA Medical Center (VAMC), in North Carolina. The position serves as the Laborer in Engineering Service assigned to the Construction Crew. Under the direct supervision of the Construction Crew Supervisor,
Duties
The duties include, but are not limited to:
Demolition of walls, floors, ceilings and other building systems
Loading and unloading trucks; transporting and preparing new building materials for use in internal construction projects throughout the medical center
Utilizes hand and powered equipment such as dollies, material carts, pallet jacks, fork lifts and tractors to load and unload tools and supplies from trucks.
Sets up and maintains temporary construction areas in accordance with Infection Control guidelines to mitigate the spread of dust and debris.
Routinely works with other tradesmen on the Construction Crew in performing tasks of various construction activities including carpentry, masonry, painting, electrical and pipefitting.
Selects proper hand and power tools to effectively remove floors, walls and ceilings constructed of various building components such as block, brick, concrete, tile, sheetrock and metal stud framing.
Inspects and maintains hand and power tools on a daily basis to identify and correct potential safety hazards.
Routinely removes debris from buildings and grounds by using pickup trucks with tow behind trailers, tractors and other specialized equipment.
Removes and stores office furniture and equipment as necessary to accomplish work.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Thursday, 12 Noon - 10:30 p.m.

Physical Requirements: Required to routinely lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs with little/no assistance, required to occasionally lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 80lbs with assistance. Also performs tasks and other strenuous laborer duties that require climbing ladders and considerable walking.
Working Conditions: Work is done primarily indoors but also involve outside work performed under various weather conditions and may frequently result in exposure to dirt and dust. Required to use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all safety regulations to protect themselves and other employees.
