You will serve as a CHEMIST of NAVENPVNTMEDU 2 NORFOLK. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

Duties

You will inspect and evaluate all incoming samples and pacakages. You will identify common problems and make simple repairs or troubleshooting when needed. You will prepare reagent and standard solutions as needed to perform analysis. You will assist in motoring of temperatures, safety checks, DI water readings, etc.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

Qualifications

GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience using scientific instruments (Ex: chromatographs, mass spectrophotometers, high pressure chromatographs, graphite furnaces, ion chromatography, or inductively coupled plasmas. Experience training others on how to use scientific instrumentation. Experience with scientific written communication to include validating standard operating procedures. Experience preparing standards and determining if performance qualifications have been met. GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience using scientific instrument (Ex: chromatographs, mass spectrophotometers, high pressure liquid chromatographs, graphite furnaces, ion chromatography, or inductively coupled plasmas). Experience preparing standards and determining if performance qualifications have been met. Experience following best storage and preservation procedures of all samples. Education

GS-09

2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.

GS-07

1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement.
