This position is located in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, in the Division of Maintenance and Construction. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately May to March, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year (04/14 /25 to 04/27/25).

Duties

The purpose of these positions is to perform safe mitigation of tree hazards, while providing for public safety, protection of property and preservation of the natural and cultural resources within Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks. Provides Tree Worker services to include Tree Felling, Tree Climbing, Rigging and Removal. Incumbent operates power chain saws with bars up to 72 inches in length to fell, buck, and limb trees of all sizes and complexity, sound or decayed within developed areas of the parks. Operates 33,000-pound GVW 60-foot Aerial Boom Truck to perform tree rigging and removal work, 33,000-pound GVW Log Truck to haul logs, tree limbs and debris, Cat 924 Log Loader/Skidder to skid, deck, and load logs and also for winching/pulling rigged trees. Also operates Stump Grinder and other specialty forestry equipment and machines. Operates a variety of trucks up to and in excess of 6,000 pounds GVW which include special purpose trucks used for plowing snow, sanding, garbage collection, septic pumping, hauling material and towing transport trailers.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of a Tree Worker (MVO) without more than normal supervision (Screen out): work history demonstrates independent journey person level knowledge in performing tree hazard identification, tree climbing, tree pruning, tree hazard reduction or tree removal. Install rigging systems while tree climbing; and falling a variety of trees to predetermined direction; Operate a variety of trucks, trailers, tractors with backhoe, front end loaders, skid steer loaders and operate a variety of specialty equipment and machines such as compressors, rollers, brush chipper and paint stripers.
