This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration. Serve as an Archivist in a Presidential Records Act (PRA) Library and is responsible, along with other members of the archival staff, for planning, performing and monitoring all archival functions.

Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Archivist, you will: - Work independently in identifying, arranging and reviewing both non-classified and national security classified presidential records in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. - Independently provides reference service in response to regular and complex e-mail, - Plan and direct the arrangement of presidential records, federal records, and donated materials. ne, and written requests for information regarding the Library's textual, electronic, and non-textual holdings. - Apply preservation techniques and recommends strategies for textual records, electronic records, and audiovisual materials. - Conduct tours of the Library and explains the work of the Library for professional and civic groups, undergraduate and graduate classes, other specially arranged student tours, and the general public.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-11, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Utilizing archival principles in order to maintain and administer record keeping systems; AND - Designing and executing communications strategies, plans, or activities in order to perform activities geared towards ultimately connecting researchers with archival records (i.e. activities at every point of the life cycle: accessioning, processing, description, reference); AND - Interpreting and applying federal laws, regulations, legal decisions, policies, procedures, or directives pertaining to the receipt and processing of requests made under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 36 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) of graduate education is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: - Utilizing archival principles in order to maintain and administer record keeping systems; AND - Executing archival strategies, plans, and activities. OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows:2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions. NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 18 semester hours (i.e., beyond the first year) of graduate education is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-11, you must have been at the GS-09level for 52 weeks. For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.

Education

Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.

Individual Occupational Requirements:

A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

OR

B.
Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
