You will serve as a LEAD POLICE OFFICER (DESK/PATROL SGT) in the MARINE CORP POLICE DEPARTMENT/PROVOST MARSHAL OFFICE of MCAS CHERRY POINT.
Duties
You will provide on-the-job training to new FTOs in accordance with established procedures and practices.
You will assist in the planning and directing of watch activities for his/her assigned areas.
You will make on the spot decisions on all out of the ordinary incidents.
You will provide technical advice and guidance to police officers on the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations.
You will respond to emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service during the watch.
You will conduct investigative stops, questions, detains, and issue traffic citations as required.
You will perform law enforcement duties at fixed posts such as entry and exit gates throughout the installation.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. You must meet medical standards for Police Officers in DOD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM 6260.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You must pass a National Agency Check and local background check. You must be at least 18 years of age. You must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- You are required to use all police equipment, certify in the use of radar and alcohol detection equipment, filed sobriety tests, expandable or collapsible baton, and obtain other certification required to accomplish law enforcement duties.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-08) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: assisting in the planning and directing of watch activities, preparing absentee reports and watch schedules/lists; deploying police officers on motorized, bicycle, or walking patrols; directing police officers at fixed posts; controlling vehicle and personnel access to the installation; instructing field training officers; monitoring and maintaining criminal activity statistics; receiving reports, maintaining desk journals and ensuring accuracy of paperwork submitted.

Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT CONTINUED:
You are required to carry a firearm. You must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and you must pass all re-qualifications.
You are required to wear a uniform and maintain appearance and grooming standards per Marine Corps orders/policies. Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.
Must satisfactorily pass the Police Applicant Suitability Review (PASR) investigation
This position requires rotating shift work and you are subject to 24-hr recall and will maintain a 24-hr notification number and required to respond per installation policy/SOP. Subject to interruptions from meal or other work breaks while on duty.
This position does not meet the definition of law enforcement officer (LEO) and is excluded from coverages as LEO for purposes of Federal Employment Retirement System-Base Annuity IAW 5 CFR, Part 8412, Subpart H.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. You may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DOD policy.
Education
No substitution of education or training may be made for the required specialized experience.
