Duties

You will educate service members on proper fitness, injury prevention, nutrition, and proper execution of physical training that impacts readiness. You will conduct program evaluations, consolidate data, provide reports, and track trends to assess and improve fitness program effectiveness. You will ensure staff certifications are current, training is performed as required, and the necessary logistical and fiscal support is provided to staff. You will assist customers and take action to solve problems quickly. You will schedule and coordinate publicity of fitness programs and events using various methods of marketing and promotion. You will develop and prepare program budgets and coordinate issuance, maintenance and upkeep of all fitness equipment.

Requirements

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current automated external defibrillator certification.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current strength and conditioning certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) within 6 months of employment.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current Sports Performance Level 1 or Club Level 1 Coach Certification from the U.S. Weightlifting Association (USAW) or equivalent certification.
  • You will be required to possess and maintain a current certificate of completion or certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association's TSAC Department.
  • You must be able to lift and carry objects up to 60lbs independently and objects over 60lbs with assistance.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Conducting and evaluating individual strength and conditioning programs; effectively managing financial and physical resources; and utilizing effective marketing techniques to ensure maximum participation in support of mission objectives. Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Basic Requirement:
  • Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position.
This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

In lieu of the specialized experience listed in the Qualifications section, you may qualify for the position based on education OR equivalent combination of experience and education as follows:
  • I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR
  • I have successfully completed two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree OR
  • I have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent
