This position serves as a Maintenance Worker within George Washington Carver National Monument. The primary purpose of this position is to perform recurring maintenance to park buildings, roads, trails, and utilities, utilizing knowledge and skills in several trades and crafts.
Duties
Maintenance and repair of buildings/structures, trails, and grounds using a variety of trade skills including carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, and masonry. Use and care of a broad range of hand and power tools to perform trades work. Operation and maintenance of park vehicles, farm-type tractors (up to 75 H.P.) with attachments, UTVs, riding mowers, and equipment. Perform landscaping and grounds duties such as: mowing; trimming; removal of leaves, limbs, trash, or other debris; shoveling snow from sidewalks and roads; pruning trees and shrubs; repairing trails, bridges, and boardwalks; maintaining flower and planting beds; and using pesticides to control pests. Loads and unloads supplies and carries heavy items to work sites. Moves office furniture, equipment, tents, and supplies by hand or with various moving devices (e.g., dollies and/or hand trucks). Sets up tents and chairs for special events. May occasionally perform custodial duties cleaning offices, public areas, restrooms, maintenance shops, etc.

George Washington Carver National Monument is located in southwestern Missouri just outside of Diamond and about 10 miles from Joplin. Summer temperatures generally range from 75-100 degrees with high humidity. Winter temperatures generally range from 0-50 degrees with periods of intermittent freezing. All professional, community and educational services are available within the commuting area. Public transportation is not readily available in the immediate Diamond area.

SCREEN OUT: Ability To Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Able to perform the full range of maintenance worker duties associated with more than one trade such as carpentry, painting, electrical, plumbing, lawn maintenance, gardening and other trades appropriate to this position. Performed these duties with only general supervision subject to occasional inspection. Troubleshoot and take initiative to solve problems and accomplish work assignments in a safe manner. Knowledge of a variety of technical trade terminology, tools, and equipment in more than one area. Strong work ethic, dexterity and able to perform strenuous work as required by the position. Possess the ability to use a computer, maintain records, and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
