About the Position: This position is under Naval Health Clinic located at the Pearl Harbor side of Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, which is on the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation. Advance in Hire may be authorized. This is available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. A cost of living allowance has been authorized for Hawaii at the rate of 8.90% (subject to change).

Duties

Fill prescriptions according to established protocols. Maintain automated and manual records in accordance with Pharmacy Department policies and procedures. Ensure safe operation of medication dispensing equipment. Resolve medication order problems including, but not limited to accuracy, inappropriate dose, significant medication interactions, and allergies.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position. All applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position requires moderate to heavy lifting up to least 30 pounds (lbs).
  • Must obtain and maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification from the American Heart Association or Military Training Network within 30 days of employment.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • May be required to be certified in certain specialty areas.
  • May be required to use their personal vehicle to go to the refill pharmacy as needed.
  • Business casual dress is required at all times as there is frequent contact with the public.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be worn during exposure to patient blood/body fluids, caustic acids, and airborne pathogens.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: filling prescriptions; and utilizing pharmacy-based computer systems gained in hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, or in pharmaceutical firms or laboratories. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Successful completion of pertinent specialized training courses in pharmaceutical and pharmacy practices while serving in the Armed Forces is creditable on a month-for-month basis up to the 1 year of specialized experience required for GS-5. (Note: You must include proof of training completion with your application package in order to receive credit towards specialized experience.). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in pharmacy, or that included at least 24 semester hours in pharmacy-related courses. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
