This position is located with USDA, Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), San Joaquin Valley Agricultural Sciences Center (SJVASC), Crop Diseases, Pests, & Genetics Research Unit (CDPGRU) in Parlier, CA.
In this position, you will be participating as team member, providing technical support in almost all phases of the scientist's research project related to grapevine research.
Duties
Duties listed represent the GS-06 grade level of the position.
Assists in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties, in a laboratory, field, or greenhouse environment, related to grapevine research.
Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.
Maintains, calibrates and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures related to grapevine research.
Keeps detailed records of experimental data. Tabulates, statistically analyzes and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
Requirements

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.
- Subject to one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period unless prior service is creditable. New USDA supervisors must successfully complete all components of the required training program before the end of their probationary period.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled and which provided the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
GS-05
Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-05 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-04 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, assisting in plant research in a laboratory, field, or a greenhouse environment with 6 months of experience related to grapevine research; recording or analyzing scientific data; and maintaining and modifying laboratory equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Botany, Agriculture. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. Related courses may include Botany, Plant Physiology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, or Biochemistry.

A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
GS-06
Experience: The qualification requirements for this position at the GS-06 grade level includes one-year specialized experience at the GS-05 grade level, or its non-Federal equivalent, assisting in plant research in a laboratory, field, or a greenhouse environment related to grapevine research; recording or analyzing scientific data; and maintaining and modifying laboratory equipment.
OR
Education: Successful completion of one full year of study leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Biology, Chemistry, Entomology, Botany, Agriculture. At least 6 semester hours of courses must have been directly related to the position to be filled. Related courses may include Botany, Plant Physiology, Horticulture, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, or Biochemistry.
OR
A qualifying combination of graduate education and experience as described above.
Working Environment:The work involves regular and recurring moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working with irritant chemicals and working outdoors in heat. The employee is required to use protective clothing such as gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves.
