About the Position: Serve as a first line supervisor over the Preventative Maintenance and Service Order Teams, within the Directorate of Public Works, Operations and Maintenance Division, Buildings and Structures Branch.

Duties

Serve as a first line supervisor over the Preventative Maintenance and Service Order Teams, within the Directorate of Public Works, Operations and Maintenance Division, Buildings and Structures Branch. Exercise supervisory responsibility over the work operations. Ensure that environmental and safety rules are followed. Specific planning, work direction, and administrative duties include: Plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of work operations for subordinates. Establish deadlines and priorities based on general work schedules, methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision. Re-direct individual workers and resources to accomplish unanticipated work. Observe work in progress to anticipate and resolve problems. Develop internal operating procedures to be followed by subordinate leader and mechanics to assure effective control and direction to complete work projects. Implement corrective action to resolve work problems and recommend solutions. Assign work and provide technical direction. Investigate work problems such as excessive cost or low productivity. Evaluate work performance of subordinates. Recommend promotions and reassignments.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation TIER 1 investigation.
  • One-year supervisory probationary period required unless already completed.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid State driver's license for the duration of employment.
  • May be required to work shift work. Scheduled hours are subject to change.
  • May be expected to respond to emergency calls after regular working hours.
  • Protective devices are required in the performance of work.
  • Position is designated as essential personnel for the purpose of snow and ice removal. May be required to work on the snow and ice removal team on a regular and/or overtime basis.
  • May be required to work nights, weekend and/or rotational shifts.

Supervise maintenance personnel assigned to work operations to include, planning the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials and tools on a day-to-day or project-by-project basis. Assign work and provide technical direction. Update the planning of workers and equipment when projects change. Identify potential problems within projects and making the necessary changes to personnel or equipment to successfully complete the project. Verify the quality of work done during and after the project has been completed. Typical work that is being validated includes, but is not limited to, work from the following journeyman disciplines: Maintenance Mechanic, Locksmith, Electrician, Pipefitter/Welder, Sheet Metal Mechanic, Plumber, Painter, General Maintenance and Repair Leader, Sign Painter Inspector, High Voltage Electrician, Material Handler (MVO), Tools and Parts Attendant, Carpenter, Painter. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. ABILITY TO INTERPRET INSTRUCTIONS, SPECIFICATIONS ETC. (INCLUDING BLUEPRINT READING)Ability To Lead or SuperviseAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentEngineering ManagementKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Lifts objects from moderate to heavy weights. (Maximum weight of 50 lbs. anything over 50 lbs. will have assistance.) Climbs ladders, scaffolds, and work from platforms. May work in cramped and awkward positions, reaches, bends, lifts while using tools, parts, and/or equipment. WORKING CONDITIONS Work inside and outside in a variety of weather conditions. Subject to exposure to dust and dirt, grease, fumes, noise, etc. Workers are also subject to cuts, burns, bruises, electrical shocks, etc. Safety equipment is provided to minimize hazards.
