District Sanitarian for the Portland Area OEHE, Division of Environmental Health Services, who will provide comprehensive environmental health services to tribes and reports to the Director, DEHS.
Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 1 year service agreement will be required.
Duties
Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate environmental health service (EHS) programs;
Serve as the primary technical advisor to service unit directors and other health professionals assigned within District;
Serve as the tribe's consultant and liaison officer regarding EHS programs that involve other federal, state, and local agencies;
Serve as an institutional consultant for the tribes and service units related to health care facilities, school day care centers, nursing homes, etc. located within the District;
Evaluate assigned EHS programs on a quarterly basis; and
Keep abreast of new technological developments in the field of environmental health.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE GS-12 GRADE LEVEL:
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Possess specific knowledge of the concepts, principles, methods, and techniques of environmental health science and related laws, rules, and regulations; have specific knowledge and experience in environmental and occupational disease epidemiology; experience with the completion of comprehensive environmental health surveys; plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive environmental health program; and providing in-depth technical assistance in emergency response, food sanitation, injury prevention, institutional environmental health, recreational sanitation, vector control, waste management, and safe drinking water.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: In addition to the minimum requirements, the following registration as a Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) is determined to be essential to perform the duties and responsibilities of a particular position. Applicants who do not meet a selective placement factor are ineligible for further consideration.
Current, valid registration as a Registered Sanitarian or Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) from a nationally recognized credentialing body such as the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA). Copy of registration must be attached to your application.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
