About the Position: This is a PERMANENT Range Operations Specialist position with the U.S. Army Garrison DPTMS Training Division Range Operations Branch located at Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Assist in planning, directing, and coordinating the functions of one of the teams at Range Control. Coordinate Range Operations fire desk operations and range support operations. Advise all units on the capabilities and limitations of the terrain to support the desired training, such as Infantry, Armor, Airborne, Aviation and Special Forces on the restricted areas, parachuting and close air support missions. Perform scheduled and unscheduled on-site inspections of training facilities and ranges, observe operations for safety violations or operations not in accordance with guidelines and regulations. Advise unit personnel on the capabilities and limitations of all weapons used in military training. Ensure that planned directions of fire, safety distances and time sequences are correct and adequate to ensure the safety of personnel involved in the exercise and other ongoing and unrelated training.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to pass a background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of up to 10% of the time.
  • This is a designated drug testing position.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • Intermediate level II Range Safety Course is required within 3 years of hire.

Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
