About the Position: This position is located in the Director for Medicine in the Department of Medicine Office of the Chief at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, Bethesda Maryland.

Duties

Plan, direct, organize, and coordinate the administrative services of Graduate Medical Education within the assigned department. Provide expert consultation and guidance to program directors, and the Command Headquarters in identifying and assessing problems or recommending actions concerning graduate training issues. Prepare and manage affiliation training agreements between MTF and other teaching institutions to provide training to medical students. Attend the annual, Joint Services Selection Board meeting and participates as administrator for an individual selection panel. Serve on various committees that are composed of program directors and those involved in professional training. Provide in-depth knowledge of the rules, procedures, and regulations. Provide direct administrative assistance and advice in working directly with GMEC in examining or carrying out policy. Prepare and execute annual GME operating budget by developing cost benefit analysis, projections, and justifications for the department using only broad objectives as guidance. Supervise the internal operation of the administrative office. Coach and mentor subordinates, identifies training and developmental needs of subordinates and provides or arranges for needed training.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position may require incumbent to serve a one-year supervisory probationary period.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
