Air University's Global College of Professional Military Education (GCPME) invites applications for a faculty position as a Professor of Warfare Studies. The position is responsible for educating military and civilian Professional Military Education (PME) students enrolled in multiple Air Force officer distance education programs by developing online curriculum, teaching, and conducting research in the areas of joint warfighting and airpower.
Duties
Develops curricula for online professional military education courses in one or more of the following areas: Joint Forces, Joint Planning, Airpower, and Joint Air Operations.
Teaches required GCPME nonresident courses and optional in-resident PME classes within the core curriculum.
Serves as Course Director for GCPME courses, to include those taught by contract instructors; works with contract instructors on course and student issues.
Conducts research in support of course development and/or within area of specialty.
Establishes and maintains professional partnerships and relationships with academic and professional colleagues. Supports communication with Air University, other DoD schools and organizations, civilian institutions, and businesses related to distance learning.
Performs administrative support functions and special projects, as directed, to include serving on internal committees.

- You may qualify for moving expenses, if authorized, it may be covered using PCS, Recruitment or Relocation Incentive in accordance with agency policy.
- Incumbent may be required to travel by commercial or military conveyance to perform temporary duty.
- This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service. This is an Administratively Determined position in the excepted service.
Qualifications
Broad knowledge of subject matter and experience with Service and joint military strategy and doctrine.
Broad knowledge of national military strategy, military thought and theory, military history; organization, capabilities and limitations of the services and the joint force.
Broad knowledge and experience in the development of joint and combined warfighting plans and strategies.
Broad knowledge and experience in joint/combined planning and familiarity with the Joint Planning Process (JPP) and/or Joint Planning Process for Air (JPPA).
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
PME curriculum development and teaching experience in the subject areas above.

Education
A master's degree is required, but a Ph.D. is desired in Military or Diplomatic History, International Relations, Security Studies or a closely related field with an emphasis on the development of joint and combined warfighting strategies, national security strategy, global environment, international political structures and strategy, and joint military environment.
