About the Position: The US Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Operations and Readiness Division is actively soliciting applicants who are seeking permanent, full-time, seasonal positions. This position is located in Pikeville, KY at Fishtrap Lake. Project purposes include water impoundment for flow regulation and a variety of resource preservation and outdoor recreation activities.

Duties

Advise visitors concerning safety, fire prevention, and proper use of recreations facilities. Develop and conduct interpretive talks and guided tour programs. Inspect facilities and check for compliance with rules and regulations. Collect cash receipts (user fees) and deposits in a designated depository. Prepare displays for posting on project bulletin boards. Conduct on-foot and motorized patrols of project land and water ways. Investigate stream pollution due to logging, mining and manufacturing processes, etc.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to successfully complete a pre-employment Physical Examination.
  • May be required to complete a pre-employment drug test.
  • Required to possess and maintain a current state driver's license.
  • Required to obtain and maintain a current Corps of Engineers motorboat operator's license.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
  • Required to obtain and maintain citation authority.
  • Required to wear and maintain the appropriate uniform.
  • May work in inclement weather to perform duties including but not limited to boat/foot patrol, surveillance of project, various inspections.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. Seasonal employees are permanent employees who are placed in non-duty/non-pay status and recalled to duty in accordance with pre-established conditions of employment. Typical periods in pay status will last 6 or 10 months. In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. GS-03: General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes experience in experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND three months of specialized experience which includes supporting park management projects (involving areas such as fish and wildlife, recreation management and/or law enforcement); serving as a park guide or tour leader; supporting forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; assisting in developing policy related to protection, conservation, or preservation of park areas or similar operations. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 9. Then divide your semester hours of education by 30. Add the two percentages. GS-04: General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience which includes experience in administrative, professional, technical, investigative, or other responsible work as qualifying as long as the experience provided a familiarity with natural or cultural history; fish or wildlife habitat characteristics; techniques of resource protection and use; recreational use of public lands and facilities; enforcement of laws, rules, or regulations; fire prevention techniques and fire suppression methods; or the practice of interpersonal relations skills in dealing with the general public; AND six months of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level with twelve semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in technical, administrative, or scientific work, fish and wildlife management, recreation management, law enforcement, or other park-related work as qualifying with specific examples such as park guide or tour leader; law enforcement or investigative work; archeological or historical preservation research work; forestry and/or fire management work in a park, recreation, or conservation area; or management, assistant, or program specialist work involving the development and implementation of policy related to protection, conservation, or management of park areas or similar operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours of related course work in natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 120. Add the two percentages.
