These are permanent, bargaining unit maintenance positions at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Maintenance and Engineering Division.

Duties

As a Maintenance Worker A at Lake Mead National Recreation Area, you will perform the following duties to include, but are not limited to: Performs a wide variety of minor maintenance work which involves carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and assist journeyman with projects. Performs a variety of trades and craft duties involving maintenance, repair and improvement of facilities, requiring the use of trade practices associated with plumbing, electrical, janitorial, and laboring work. Use tools such as tape measure, square, plumb bob and chalk line to make minor repairs to buildings. Assist in the maintenance and repair or the grounds. Trim hedges, trees, and shrubbery. Dumps trash, waters plants, and sweeps walkways. Cleans and maintains restrooms to ensure orderly and sanitary condition. Performs other duties as assigned. Lake Mead National Recreation Area, America's largest reservoir, was created by the construction of the Hoover Dam. With more than 750 miles of shoreline, you can enjoy a day at the beach, take a boat out and disappear for hours or nestle into a cove to try to catch a big one. Located in the western part of Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Boulder Bay stretches more than a mile along the shoreline of the Boulder Basin of Lake Mead. Boulder Beach has access to many recreation opportunities. Boulder Beach, Special Events Beach, Canoe/Kayak Beach, and PWC Beach are 1-2 miles away where you can kayak and jet ski. To explore the park on land, the River Mountains Loop Trail passes right by the campground. This paved trail is more than 30 miles long and leads to the Historic Railroad Trail. The incumbent should be agile, mentally alert, possess common sense, and have no fear of water, height, dark, or of working along in adverse weather conditions. The duties involve walking, climbing, standing, bending, operating motor vehicles and strenuous physical tasks involving occasional lifting of 100 lbs. Working Conditions: The position involves mostly field work at various locations with some work in an office environment. Incumbent is regularly exposed to high summer temperatures (100+ degrees) common to desert southwest when working outdoors as well as exposure to moving machinery and noise level such that safety equipment is required. The duties performed outdoors in weather ranging from very hot and dry to cold and wet with extended times exposed to direct sunlight, winds, and adverse weather. Duties are often performed alone and sometimes in hazardous environmental conditions. The incumbent is subject to work nights, weekends and respond to emergency calls.
