This position is located in the Pharmacy Branch within the Division of Clinical Services at the Crownpoint Service Unit, Crownpoint, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to provide technical and administrative supervision to the professional and non-professional Pharmacy Branch.Directs the Pharmacy Program which is a 24 hour/day, 7 days/week program.

Duties

Performs such responsibilities but is not limited to, the quality monitoring of pharmacy services, consultation for personnel issues, accreditation standards and clinical services, provision of recommendations regarding appropriate staffing numbers and equipment purchases, compliance with the Service Unit policies and procedures such as formulary adherence and overall continuity of pharmaceutical care between the outlying clinics. Assures pharmacy control measures are in place including security of relevant pharmaceutical agents such as controlled substances Manages financial and budgetary matters relating to the pharmacy including pharmacy procurement, acquisition, and billing issues. Provides direct pharmaceutical services to inpatient and outpatient units. Oversees coordinates, plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the work unit. Creates schedules, work plans, performance assessment plans, performance improvement plans, applies disciplinary action, counsels staff, recruits and hires staff, prepares position descriptions and other hiring documents, determines awards for staff, conducts performance evaluations, conducts workforce development activities, trains and orients staff, assigns work. and performs related supervisory duties. Reviews and makes decisions on leave requests as the leave granting official.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-13: Applicants must have one year of professional pharmacy experience that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Provides inpatient/outpatient pharmacy services. Carries out the pharmacy functions of drug selection, IV compounding and dispensing as prescribed, take steps to prevent drug reactions or interactions; ensure correct labeling, handling and storage of pharmaceutical products; prepares and maintains department budget; creates schedules and assigns work for subordinates, evaluates work performance, ensures staff maintain and is current with all Joint Commission standards and credentialing; Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as CMS, DEA, USP (795, 797 and 880) as well as applicable state and federal laws to include Indian Health Service requirements; teach pharmacy techniques/procedures to other pharmacists. Ability to motivate, train and work effectively with subordinates who have a variety of background and training. Ability to accomplish the quality and quantity of work expected with set limits of cost and time. Ability to plan own work and carry out assignments effectively. Ability to communicate with others effectively, both orally and in writing, in working out solutions to problems or questions related to work. Ability to understand and further manage goals as these affect day-to-day work operations. Ability to develop improvements in or design new work methods and procedures. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
