Serves as the Housing Assistant for the HUD/VASH Program within the HCHV Program under the VA Southeast Network (VISN 7); has primary responsibility for coordination of the housing resources and outreach to increase and maintain appropriate housing options for Veterans experiencing homelessness in the HUD/VASH Program using the Housing Choice voucher.

Duties

Major Duties: Provides housing lists for Veterans; conducts housing searches and seminars Serves as primary resource person for Veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless Expected to establish respectful, effective relationships with Veterans and with the clinical and administrative staff from HUD/VASH Provide guidance and training to all homeless programs and staff across the VA South East Network on resources that enhance and result in positive housing outcomes for Veterans Works with local staff in developing templates for concise individualized Veteran centered assessments to determine the needed intensity level of housing stability and support for homeless Veterans Serves as liaison to local community providers of housing placement and supportive services for homeless Veterans Coordinates with GS-5 Housing Specialists to determine/prioritize caseload needs, coordinate community housing searches and provide education on how to rapidly lease-up chronically homeless Veterans Conducts monthly conference calls with all members (VA and non VA) of the local housing collaborative serving Veterans and resolves access barriers to rapid housing placement Serves as Advocate on behalf of Veterans with landlords, property managers and community Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement 09/23/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-5 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-4. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Specialized experience includes: collecting, compiling and tracking data; communicating effectively both orally and in writing; providing clerical and administrative support; coordinating meetings and scheduling conferences; establishing priorities and setting deadlines; preparing, executing, and/or tracking congressional inquires, grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts; providing general office supply and equipment support services; preparing and completing a variety of reports. Preferred: Proficient using Microsoft Office You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:AccountabilityClient OrientationDecision Making Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is basically sedentary in a nature but may be subject to stressful situations. The position does require some bending, standing, and carrying of supplies within the medical center complex. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
