This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN 6), Engineering Service, Operations section at the Salem VA Health Care System, Salem Virginia. Supervise the safe, reliable and efficient operation of Salem VAMC's around-the-clock centralized chiller plant and all Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning equipment.
Duties
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Supervise mechanics in the trades of A/C equipment operator, A/C equipment mechanics and Electronic Industrial Control mechanic.
Ensure maintenance and operations of the Utility Systems are accomplished, including scheduling required safety and environmental inspections, maintaining all inspection and compliance records.
Act as SME on utility system operations on HVAC, refrigeration systems, chillers, pumps, compressors, industrial water treatment, water return systems, auto valves, hydrostatic testing, safety component circuits and operations testing frequencies
Observes, inspects, performs necessary test, measures key temperatures, pressures, humidity, and resets control points as conditions require.
Makes scheduled preventive maintenance inspections, and repairs on all equipment and systems. Monitors alarm enunciator panel.
Controls and operates, thru the Control Center functional components of each of the following: mechanical exhaust systems, auxiliary air conditioning systems for standby/supplemental cooling, heated and chilled water circulating systems.
Coordinates the utility system and other shops, sections, and outside contractors to ensure that all labor, tools, supplies and equipment are adequate to complete projects within the planned time frame and determine assignments.
Review utility system and HVAC system's operations and communicates any operational or functional issues with the M&O General Supervisor or FMS leadership.
Work Schedule: Full-time; Monday-Friday, 7:45-4:30pm

Physical Requirements: Operate heavy equipment, including standing, climbing ladders and kneeling while performing work or inspecting the work of subordinate employees. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
