Incumbent will work in the Electrical Section of Engineering Service at the Amarillo VA Health Care System, in Amarillo, Texas. Incumbent will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, installation and removal of all electrical systems at the facility.

Duties

Installs, repairs, maintains electrical distribution systems and components. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The incumbent is assigned a wide variety of duties of a journeyman electrician involving installation, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance and testing of complex electrical systems, circuits, equipment, appliances, controls, components, lighting fixtures and fire alarm systems. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD02008A Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding and hydraulic work platforms. He/she often works in portions of the electrical systems requiring attention that are in cramped, dirty and hard-to-reach locations. The work involves prolonged crouching and standing and frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in exhausting and uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, the incumbent will be required to lift and carry over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Electricians are exposed to a variety of weather conditions, both in winter and summer, in making repairs and installations on exterior work sites. During emergency repairs, extremes of bad weather are sometimes present. Many work sites are hot, dirty, dusty, greasy, poorly lit, cramped and with unpleasant odors. The incumbent will be required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.
