You will serve as a PATTERNMAKER in the Foundry Branch (Code 1440.1) of the Production Division (Code 1440) in
the Naval Foundry and Propeller Center (NFPC) (Code 1400) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania a detachment of the NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will plan positioning of parts regarding cope, drag, and core sections of the mold, about parting lines.
You will smooth patterns to exact dimensions.
You will analyze and interpret plans of items to be cast to develop three-dimensional or isometric drawings of the pattern.
Secures integral parts with glue, nails, screws, dowels, or pin pieces as appropriate so that completed assemblies fit
precisely and are easily assembled or disassembles.

Ability to plan and layout patterns and core boxes typically working from blueprints for castings.
Ability to select wood stock and shape parts using various woodworking machines and hand tools.
Ability to use all six shrinkage rules to convert final dimensions of casting in terms of pattern dimensions before shrinkage.
Ability to build large cylindrical pattern sections by slave construction with outside finished, or core boxes by similar construction with inside finished.
Ability to apply an intimate knowledge of foundry practice and requirements to determine proper form and assembly of pattern parts and core boxes, provide for pattern withdrawal and compensate for shrinkage of the various types of metals which are poured.
Ability to fabricate and assembles patterns and core boxes.
Ability to build other pattern shapes by segment construction and assembly; shapes similar parts by machine and hand shaping of solid pieces; and uses all six shrinkage rules to convert final dimensions of casting in terms of pattern dimensions before shrinkage.
Ability to analyze and interpret plans of items to be cast to develop three-dimensional or isometric drawings of the pattern.
Ability to apply a variety of techniques such as stave, segment, or intimate methods in constructing pattern shapes.
